As the hip-hop nation mourns the death of Nathaniel "Nate Dogg" Hale on Tuesday, the exact cause of death is still unknown, although Hale's family has noted his history of strokes. What is certain, however, is the indelible impact the singer/rapper's smooth baritone had on gangsta and G-Funk rap music.
Nate Dogg lent his vocal talents to a plethora of songs over the years, with his smooth but gangsta crooning serving as the cherry on top of many a hip-hop hit. The Long Beach, California, native collaborated with both up-and-coming acts and A-listers, including Dr. Dre, Eminem, Tupac and 50 Cent.
A number of artists who knew and worked with Nate took to Twitter to express their condolences. And few rappers worked as extensively with Nate Dogg as did Snoop Dogg. The two, along with Warren G, were once part of a group called 213 that sparked Dr. Dre's initial interest in Snoop.
"We lost a true legend n hip hop n rnb," Snoop tweeted. "One of my best friends n a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at poly high where we met."
Rapper/actor Xzibit experienced a boost in his profile after appearing on Snoop Dogg's "B Please," which featured singing from Nate Dogg. "We lost a [soldier], a father, a legend, a homie," Xzibit wrote. "My condolences go out to Ms. Ruth and the entire family. Celebrate #NateDogg #FOREVER."
Ludacris also benefitted from a catchy Nate Dogg hook on his 2001 song "Area Codes," which earned a Grammy Award nomination in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category. "There is a certain void in hip hop's heart that can never be filled," Luda tweeted. "Glad we got to make history together. RT @SnoopDogg: RIP NATE DOGG."
50 Cent was traveling and heard about the news when he landed at his destination. "I just landed nate dog is dead damn," 50 tweeted. "GOD BLESS HIM R.I.P he meant a lot to west coast hiphop. Iv always been a fan of it." 50 also mentioned that although he wrote the hook Nate sings on "21 Questions," from his debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin', he "needed nate to sing it for me. He had a way of making everything feel hard."
Other rappers expressed grief over Nate's death while also reminding fans of their collaborations. "R.I.P. TO MY HOMIE NATE DOGG!," Bay Area slang master E-40 tweeted, also providing a link to the video of his song "Nah, Nah," which featured Nate on its hook.
"RIP my brother Nate Dogg," Cali lyricist Rass Kass wrote, while adding a link to his song "4 Much," featuring Bad Azz, Tash and Nate Dogg.
Nate's talents spanned the entire hip-hop nation: East Coast, West Coast and everywhere in between, as reflected by the tweets from his many collaborators.
"R.I.P. TO MY HOMEBOY NATE DOGG DPGC DOGG POUND GANGSTA 4 LIFE," fellow Long Beach native Daz Dillinger tweeted. Daz befriended Nate while they were working on "Deeez Nuuuts," from Dr. Dre's seminal album, The Chronic.
"R.I.P to the homie nate dogg, my condolences to his family," tweeted G-Unit's Lloyd Banks, who featured Nate on his songs "Warrior, Part 2" and "Til the End."
"Dam RIP Big Homie nate dogg sleep well gangsta!!" Obie Trice tweeted. The Detroit rapper has a number of songs with Nate, including "Look in My Eyes" and "The Set Up."

Ja Rule Promises To End Twitter War With 50 Cent
'It's not important to me anymore,' Rule tells Sway on 'RapFix Live.'

When it comes to hip-hop beefs, the one between Queens rappers Ja Rule and 50 Cent will go down as one of the biggest and most violent.
Though the feud has been mostly dormant for some years, 50 and Ja have gone tit for tat over Twitter, volleying barbs back and forth. Most recently, on March 23, 50 ridiculed Ja after news broke that Rule pleaded guilty to tax evasion. "I wouldn't expect anything different from a ho ass n---a like @50cent," Ja tweeted back.
On Wednesday's "RapFix Live," the former Murder Inc. MC told Sway he will no longer indulge in Twitter beef with the G-Unit General.
"Sway, I promise you, he can get on Twitter right now and say, 'Ja you bitch ass n---a,' and I'm gonna say, 'Good for you, young man. I wish you well,' " Ja said.
In addition to swearing off online disses, the "Put It on Me" rapper said while he doesn't regret being involved in a beef with 50, if he had the chance, he wouldn't have involved others like Game, Dr. Dre, Eminem and Lloyd Banks in his war. "I think a lot of people got wrapped up in my and 50's whole nonsense," Rule said. "For that, I would've done that differently, maybe. My beef was with one dude; I'mma keep it with that dude. I'm not gonna drag in this person and that person."
Overall, Ja said he's over the beef: "Those old feelings are gonna bring back more old emotions and more old feelings. "It's not important to me anymore."

Nicki Minaj 'Really Excited' About Britney Spears Tour
MC says she wants to 'show people that I can be part of any world.'

Fans are eight weeks away from the launch of the Femme Fatale tour. Britney Spears, along with top-line tour opener Nicki Minaj, will get the party started in June in Sacramento, California.
Minaj has called the slot "an honor." When MTV News caught up with the Barbie herself in New Orleans for the latest stop on the I Am Still Music Tour, she opened up a bit more about the matchup.
"She's definitely iconic and I'm very excited," Minaj explained. "It's weird. I just always remember her, since I was little, ruling the world, so I'm really excited to just expand my fanbase and show people that I can be a part of any world."
Minaj is the reigning princess in the hip-hop world, and she feels that hooking up with pop's leading queen will expand her horizons, even if she has to make some changes to her stage show.
"Of course I will adjust some things. I definitely will take away that one particular stage prop," she said of one very phallic object, adding that her music and set list will basically stay the same. "We'll add some stuff 'cause I got some new things coming out this summer, some new records."
Earlier this week, Minaj called into Ryan Seacrest's radio show, promising that things will be characteristically over-the-top when she hits the road with Spears.
"I'm calling to let everyone know how thrilled I am, how honored I am to be going on the road with the iconic Miss Britney Spears this summer. I just know that when the Femme Fatales and the Barbs get together, we're going to kick major ass," she said. "And I am looking forward to creating a new, a bigger, a brighter, a more spectacular show. And I am just really, really excited to make history with Britney, so you guys, make sure you come out this summer."

Eminem, Rihanna To Co-Headline U.K.'s V Festival
The 'Love the Way You Lie' duo will share the stage at the event's two sites this August.

After weeks of speculation, organizers for the United Kingdom's annual V Festival have revealed the 2011 list of featured performers, which includes two Grammy-winning headliners from this side of the pond.
Eminem and his "Love the Way You Lie" duet partner, Rihanna, will be headlining acts for the popular summer concert event on August 20 in Weston Park. Arctic Monkeys and Plan B, meanwhile, will serve as co-headliners that day at a sister concert held simultaneously at nearby Hylands Park. On August 21, the two sets of headlining acts switch stages and hold another concurrent concert — a hallmark of the festival.
Em's involvement in the event had been rumored for weeks, but without any solid confirmation that the Detroit bad boy would appear. Rihanna's inclusion in the concerts also had been questionable, but organizers worked hard to secure the singer.
Eminem's star has been aglow of late, with the popular MC basking in the success of his seventh studio effort Recovery, which helped him snag the coveted Rap Album of the Year Grammy award for a second year in a row. Slim Shady's Grammy-winning co-star Rihanna — who is a record-setting female solo artist for sales in the U.K. — has had another successful year. The Barbadian pop artist's fifth studio release, Loud, has sold more than 1 million copies so far.
Eminem and Rihanna will be joined by a few of their stateside pals at the V Festival, along with many notable U.K. acts. Some of the other artists slated to play the festival include "Black and Yellow" star Wiz Khalifa, pop singer Bruno Mars, rock legends Duran Duran, DJ/producer Mark Ronson and grime rapper Dizzee Rascal.
The U.K. event is not the only big festival that Eminem is set to headline this year. In June, the rap star will be among the featured acts at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.

Deadmau5 Brings Dance Music To The 'Masses,' Wolfgang Gartner Says
'He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,' producer/DJ tells MTV News of his collaborator.

It's no secret that 2010 was a pivotal year for electronic dance music here in the States. With deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia becoming household names, the genre's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Using a conduit of collaboration, artists such as deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) have paired up with various underground acts to further the rapid expansion of the genre.
Perhaps one of the most notable movers and shakers of the year is now-Grammy-Award-nominated producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner, who recently sat down to chat with MTV News about deadmau5 and dance music's rise to the top.
"He has a major role in the younger generation to this music," Gartner says, "but there have been certain artists that have been instrumental in helping it cross over and reach the mainstream — which I think is a good thing. I think rap artists using dance beats is a great thing. I think it just brings more people towards this music that we all love."
Thanks to several key moments, such as deadmau5 taking the helm as house DJ (well, technically "House Artist") for the 2010 VMAs, dance music has been thrown into the forefront of America's youth, a key demographic for any genre.
"Everybody knows who he is now and he's kind of exposing the masses to dance music. These little five-, six- and seven-year-old kids latch on to this 'mau5head' logo — they get into the music and he's bringing this tiny young generation into this music that probably wouldn't be exposed to it."
Gartner certainly doesn't mind the exposure either. Unless you were living under a rock for the past six months, you probably heard one of this past summer's hottest anthems, "Animal Rights," a collaborative effort brought forth by deadmau5 and Gartner.
"It was interesting because I kind of had a preconceived notion about how he would be to work [with]," said Gartner. "I think our sounds are really similar, so I figured he would work in a similar way to me, but the way that he writes music is actually completely different to me. But he achieves kind of the same sound through a completely different process."
Recorded in deadmau5's favorite Los Angeles studio — that would be rocker Tommy Lee's House — "Animal Rights" is a thumping progressive house anthem that melds Wolfgang's unmistakable harmonics and funk riffs with the driving bass line and wobbly synths that make deadmau5 one of the unique forces in the dance music world.
"[Deadmau5] writes these rich complex chord progressions and he does it by drawing these little bars on a grid, which is just amazing that you can do that and get that result," Gartner goes on to say. "It just proves you don't have to be able to play keyboards to write amazing music."
The two sound pioneers never cease to stop pushing the limits on what they are able to produce. Using drastically difference production approaches, deadmau5 and Gartner had the ability to play off each other's strengths while recording the track.
"I'd say the biggest thing is that I play everything in on a keyboard, like even my drums," says Gartner. "I play everything in live and he draws it in with notes on a mouse, which blew me away because his music is very musical."

Usher Gets Sick, Walks Offstage Mid-Show In Berlin
Singer cancels kick off date of European leg of his OMG Tour due to illness.

Usher was forced to delay the kick off of his European OMG Tour on Wednesday night in Berlin because of illness. In a statement released to fans, the singer apologized for the last-minute scratch, saying he felt he was suffering from a "sinus complication." Although the gig was rescheduled for Thursday night at the O2 World arena in Berlin, his German fans apparently weren't appeased by his effort.
"I am truly sorry to all my fans in Berlin who were inconvenienced by tonight's postponement of the show," the singer said in a statement about Wednesday's aborted concert. "I was ill and felt that I would not have been able to give them the show that they properly deserve. ... I am looking forward to performing tomorrow and giving Berliners a great show."
According to the statement, the singer received treatment from doctors for a sinus issue that affected his balance, but a visibly still-ailing Usher was unable to finish the Thursday make-up show, reportedly abandoning the stage after just five songs.
On Friday (January 14), a follow-up statement from his spokesperson confirmed that he was too ill to play Thursday night's Berlin date and has been forced to reschedule the next three dates on the tour as well. The Rotterdam show originally scheduled for this week has been moved to March 1 and a show in Antwerp, also slated for this week, has been bumped to March 7.
The statement also updated the singer's condition: "Usher is suffering from upper respiratory illness, which is currently preventing him from performing a proper show. After consultation with doctors, he has been advised to reschedule the upcoming dates in order to get the rest he needs to ensure a complete recovery."
Footage posted on YouTube that was purportedly taken at the make-up performance in Berlin shows Usher standing silently at the microphone seemingly unable to sing, with fans booing him at first and then chanting, "Usher, Usher," as he approaches the microphone and apologizes to them for his struggles. "I appreciate your support," he told the fans wearily.
"I have been very excited about my European Tour and I deeply regret having to reschedule the shows," the singer said in the new statement. "I am truly sorry for any inconvenience I have caused my fans. My fans are the best in the world and I am looking forward to getting better so that I can give them the show they deserve."
Usher wrapped up the North American leg of his tour in December and his overseas dates are slated to last through the spring.

Jay-Z, Diddy Make Forbes' Wealthiest Hip-Hop Artists List
Dr. Dre, 50 Cent and Birdman round out the magazine's top-five list.

Hip-hop is just as lucrative a business as the next, and there's nobody that knows that better than Diddy. As a record executive, fashion designer and vodka seller, the entertainment mogul takes the top spot on Forbes magazine's 2011 list of Wealthiest Hip-Hop Artists, which was released on Thursday (March 10).
With a whopping fortune of $475 million, the "Dirty Money" frontman's net worth is attributed to his undertakings in his Sean John clothing line and Bad Boy Worldwide record label. However, his largest profit comes from his deal with vodka brand Ciroc.
Right behind Diddy is Jay-Z, whose net worth totals $450 million from his Roc Nation label, fashion line and advertising. Among his recent extracurricular projects is his memoir "Decoded," which was released last fall.
Dr. Dre nabs the third spot on the list with a bank account worth $125 million, rendered by his own solo career as well launching those of Snoop Dogg and Eminem.
Forbes' list of Hip-Hop's Wealthiest Artists rounds out with a tie between Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and Birdman at $100 million. While 50 Cent took home a hefty paycheck for the sale of his shares in Vitamin Water to Coca-Cola, Cash Money Records co-founder Birdman continues to rake in the dough from his Young Money-Cash Money artist roster, which includes Nicki Minaj, Drake and Lil Wayne.
Forbes revealed that the list was formed in the same manner as its list of the world's billionaires, taking into account current holdings, past earnings and financial documentation. For those wondering why hip-hop heavyweight Russell Simmons isn't on the list, the mag's editors say they wanted to keep their list exclusive to performers.

Lil Wayne's '6'7" ' Originally For T.I., Bangladesh Says
Producer says he sent beat to Tip's camp first but was eventually convinced to hand over the track for Weezy.

From chart-topping records to serving time behind bars, Lil Wayne and T.I. have a lot in common. In fact, they were both set to lavish lyrics on what eventually became Weezy's latest joint, "6'7"."
Producer Bangladesh, who supplied the rumbling, insistent beat for Weezy's beastly 2008 banger "A Milli," recently revealed that Wayne's lead lyrical K.O. from Tha Carter IV was originally sent to Tip's camp.
"Due to the situation and the circumstances of the Cash Money situation, I really wasn't thinking about Wayne at that moment when I made it," he told BET.com about sidestepping Weezy's label due to static that cropped up when Bangladesh claimed Cash Money owed him some, well, cash money. "I just knew that the beat was a big track and I couldn't at the time think of nobody that could swag this out like that or was worthy enough of this beat really.
"I was actually sending the beat to Gee [Roberson, Atlantic Records executive] for T.I.," he added. "I mean, not that I think T.I. would sound good on the beat, they were just looking for a single and somebody said, 'Man, send that to Gee; T.I. need something.' "
Even though the producer sent over the track, he knew that Tip wasn't likely to latch on to the record. Instead, Roberson, who co-manages Weezy, insisted the beat was Carter IV material.
"I already dealt with T.I., I know how T.I. is. I knew he wouldn't really be rocking this beat right there, so I sent it anyway," he added. "And Gee just hit back talking about Wayne: 'Man, Wayne'll kill this, Wayne'll kill this,' so I had to really see if I wanted to do it or not, but they've been communicating, they've been reaching out."
Bangladesh told MTV News on Wednesday that when the beat finally reached Wayne, he attacked it with the same fervor he did the steely Carter III smash, but this time he focused that raw, freewheeling energy to turn out more slickly delivered bars.
"The overall wittiness is everything I was saying about 'A Milli' when it came to be," the producer explained. "He freestyled 'A Milli,' and before it was big and before we knew what it was gonna do, we all had our opinions of it. A lot of people loved it, but me being the creator of the art, I didn't see the vision that he had. I think he attacked it as a mixtape. And that was the genius of what he did and it became the biggest thing. The way he approached this one, was everything that I wanted him to do on 'A Milli.' I think he's really focusing on every, every line. It's like he's writing. It's different. It's a whole 'nother level of cleverness to it."

Jason Derulo Recalls 'Embarrassing' Ride On 'When I Was 17'
Singer talks about his car, nicknamed 'The White Jellybean,' in the episode premiering on MTV this Saturday at 11 a.m.

Jason Derülo is riding high with two MTV Video Music Awards nominations and hit songs like "Whatcha Say" and "In My Head" under his belt. But before the Moonmen nods and chart-topping tracks, Derülo's ride was a major problem.
"Everybody else had nice cars, so my dad bought me this white Chevy. People would call it 'The White Jellybean,' " Derülo says on the episode of "When I Was 17" that premieres on MTV Saturday at 11 a.m. "[It was] very, very embarrassing."
Derülo's friend and manager, Frank, remembers the rising hitmaker's vehicle failed to strike a chord with the ladies. "I know girls were not impressed by this car," Frank says.
The Florida native, who was 17 in 2006, recalls that his raggedy wheels put his chances with one lady in jeopardy.
"I can remember one time I took this girl on a date and I picked her up in this car. I could tell she was a little surprised [because] I didn't have any air conditioning. I put the windows down, like this [makes hand-cranking motion]," Derülo says. "We're good, we're flowing, we're riding." But the singer's smooth drive didn't last long.
"Suddenly I hear it go 'boom, boom, boom, boom.' I just try to keep going. We're still riding ... but I know that we got a flat tire," Derülo recalls. Trying to maintain one's cool while tooling around with a busted tire is already a challenge. And the singer was faced with an even bigger problem: "But I also know [that] I don't know how to change the tire."

During a postgame interview, Kentucky player Darius Miller, who one of the photos is credited to, was asked about his reaction to seeing Jay-Z after the game. "It was crazy. I kind of had to do a double take," Miller told Louisville's Courier-Journal. "I didn't expect that at all. I just had to get a picture with him."
Hova congratulating the Wildcats didn't break any NCAA rules, however the hip-hop mogul might face a fine from the NBA, considering that Boston Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge was fined $30,000 for sitting next to Kevin Durant's mother while he was still playing for the University of Texas in 2007.
While the New Jersey Nets declined to comment, a spokesperson for the NBA confirmed to MTV News that the league is indeed investigating the matter. A message to Jay-Z's representatives was not returned by press time.

50 Cent Filming Twelve
Here's someone we don't see a lot of! 50 Cent was spotted filming on the set of 'Twelve.' Singers/rappers transitioning to acting isn't always the greatest idea but for some reason I feel like 50 Cent will do pretty well.

Nicki Minaj To Auction Off Pink Camera For Japanese Disaster Relief

Beyond being the hottest female rap artist in some time, Young Money starlet Nicki Minaj also has a heart as big as her ever-growing fame.
MTV News caught up with the Pink Friday rapper as she wrapped up a Thursday evening performance at Casio's TRYX OUT: NYC 2011 launch party at the Best Buy Theater in New York. Minaj — currently traveling with Young Money Records boss Lil Wayne, Maybach Music Group head honcho Rick Ross and rocker Travis Barker on the I Am Still Music Tour — spoke on how she got involved with the Casio camera line launch and also assisting in upcoming relief efforts in Japan by auctioning off an autographed and fittingly pink version of the TRYX camera.
"[Casio] told us about an amazing product they were launching and asked if I wanted to be a part of it. I was like, 'Yeah, of course.' I did a little bit of research on it and learned how to use it," Minaj said. "I'm not a big electronics person usually, but it's really sleek, it's real sexy, and of course I want to be a part of it."
In a later portion of the interview, Nicki revealed to MTV News that not only does she have her own exclusive pink version of the TRYX camera, but that she will auction it off to help aid in disaster relief efforts in earthquake-ravaged Japan.
"This is the Casio TRYX, and this is my baby. This pink — I don't think this one is in stores yet. I'm going to beg them to put this color in stores because the Barbs and the Ken Barbs need this one," she said. "I'm actually auctioning this one off for the tsunami relief in Japan. I'm really super excited. It's dope to launch a camera, but we can also give back. So hopefully we'll see how well this goes, and it will all go to helping the people out in Japan who are dealing with the disaster."
Minaj has recently been in talks with pop star Britney Spears as a possible replacement for Enrique Iglesias on Spears' Femme Fatale Tour.

Lenny Kravitz Hints At Collaboration With Drake, Swizz Beatz
'It's great to meet people that I want to collaborate with at this point,' the rocker tells MTV News.

Rocker Lenny Kravitz keeps his hip-hop collaborations few and far between. But when a photo of Kravitz, Drake and Swizz Beatz together in a studio hit the Internet, speculation was set off that the trio was cooking up a hi-wattage musical union. MTV News caught up with Kravitz prior to his performance before tip-off at the NBA All-Star Game and asked what exactly was in the works.
"That's some secret business, man," Kravitz told MTV News slyly. "Who knows what was going on that night?!"
Nevertheless, Kravitz revealed some more details when asked for his thoughts on Toronto rapper Drake.
"I think he's a very talented individual," Kravitz said of the child-actor-turned-rapper. "His new music is even more incredible. We got together and played around so there might be a little something happening, yeah ..."
When asked about producer Swizz Beatz, Kravitz gave up even more intel.
"He is an amazing person," Kravitz said of Swizz. "I got to know him through Alicia [Keys, who is Beatz's wife]. And we've become very good friends. He's a gentleman. He's a very intelligent person and I enjoy his company. When things happen organically, it's nice. I'm not one that normally collaborates. I play all the instruments, I produce my records. And it's great to meet people that I want to collaborate with at this point."
Some of Kravitz's limited collabos with the hip-hop world include 2002's "Show Me Your Soul" with Diddy, Loon and Pharrell from the Bad Boys 2 soundtrack and "Storm," featuring Jay-Z from his Baptism album. Kravitz also played guitar on the song "Guns & Roses" from Jay-Z's The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse album.
Last year, Kravitz revealed that Teena Marie took him in when he was a teenager and credited the late soul singer with saving his life.

Five years ago, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne were trading lyrical jabs like Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj do these days. Their war of words, however, seemed to subside when the iconic Brooklyn rapper invited the Cash Money superstar to join him on "Hello Brooklyn 2.0," from 2007's American Gangster.
But things seemed to become chilly again when Birdman compared Hov and Weezy, saying his artist is a better rapper and has more money.
In January, Jay-Z and Kanye West's "H.A.M." arrived via Facebook, and fans wondered whether Jay was taking shots at Wayne on the track.
"N---as fantasize about the sh-- that I do daily/ Like these rappers rap about all the sh-- that I do daily," Jay spits on the number. "I'm like really, half a billi, n---a, really you got Baby money/ Keep it real with n---as, n---as ain't got my lady money."
According to Weezy, who heard the track personally through West, he isn't looking to start another competition with Jay. Wayne told MTV News that he didn't ask 'Ye about the alleged dig: "I wouldn't ask him about a Jay-Z line because he's not Jay-Z."
That doesn't mean Wayne wouldn't respond to the line, even if he hasn't returned fire just yet.
"Me and my wit, given my wit, I would probably play off of it," Wayne explained. "But I wouldn't make it a competition, because actually, the subject that he's talking about in that line, I can't box with the god. I'd be the first one to tell you that, given my wit, and the type of person that I am, I'd capitalize and I'd play off of it. Yeah, I definitely would."
The New Orleans rapper is putting the final touches on his next studio album — and his first project since his release from prison — Tha Carter IV. But first, Wayne is set to premiere his video for "6 Foot 7 Foot" on MTV this Thursday at 7:54 p.m.
