Tyrese Recalls Ignoring His Earliest Critics On 'When I Was 17'

The 'Transformers' star describes getting 'gonged' on this week's show, airing Saturday at 11 a.m. ET.
By Sterling Wong

He may be a big-time Hollywood star now, with roles in upcoming blockbusters like "Fast Five" and "Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon," but it turns out model/actor/singer Tyrese's talents were not always appreciated.

In this week's "When I Was 17," Tyrese confesses that he was once "gonged" while performing on his high school stage.+

"My music teacher would do these 'gong' [talent] shows, and basically, if you got up [onstage] to sing and you were horrible, then somebody would run up and hit the bell," the star explains. "I remember I was in the middle of singing this Brian McKnight song, and somebody ran up and hit that sh-- loud and it went gong!"

Brandy, who's a good friend of Tyrese, jokes, "I think Tyrese's natural reaction was, 'Are you serious?!' "

His shocked reaction to the sound provoked much laughter from the audience. And even though the gong meant he was supposed to get off the stage, because of the support he received from the girls in the crowd (no surprises there!), he kept on going.

"I finally had a conversation with the girl who hit the gong. I was just like, 'Yo, man, why did you do that?' And she was like, 'Don't get mad at me! Everybody told me to hit the gong, so I ran up and did it!' " Tyrese recalls.

He was clearly not impressed with her answer. "I remember I gave her a dirty look, like, 'Don't you ever hit the gong again, OK?' And I walked off."

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring Tyrese, Lupe Fiasco and Jessie J — airs this Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

50 Cent To Star In Crime Drama 'Freelancers'

Movie will reportedly be directed by Jessy Terrero ('Soul Plane').
By Aly Semigran

Like many before him, 50 Cent is making the transition from hip-hop to Hollywood. The rapper, who has a finger in various projects — from his own film-production company, called Cheetah Vision Films, to distributing a line of earphones — has signed on for yet another movie role.

According to Variety, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson will star in an upcoming crime drama called "Freelancers," in which he'll play the son of a murdered New York City police officer who joins the force and finds himself "on a team of rogue Gotham cops."

The movie will reportedly be directed by Jessy Terrero ("Soul Plane"), who has previously worked with 50 on some of his most-memorable videos such as the MTV Video Music Award-nominated "Candy Shop."

The latest news is just another step in 50 Cent's plan to move from music to movies. Making his big-screen debut in 2005's "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," the star shocked fans a few years later when he tweeted a picture of himself looking frighteningly thin in preparation for his role in his passion project "Things Fall Apart."

In fact, the 35-year-old seems to be continuing to take his craft very seriously. When MTV News caught up with him at this year's Sundance Film Festival — which he attended alongside his friend, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., to promote their newly launched film company, Mayweather Productions — 50 seemed as ambitious as ever.

He not only said he feels as though he's "growing" as an actor, but also that he hopes to have a career akin to trailblazing Oscar-winner Sidney Poitier. As 50 put it, "Shoot for the stars if you would do that."

Does 50 Cent have the acting chops to make it in Hollywood? Sound off below!

Thor Gets Tased In Exclusive New Clip

Natalie Portman encounters Chris Hemsworth for the first time in this sneak peek.
By Kara Warner

Photo: Paramount Pictures

Attention "Thor" fans! By the good graces of otherworldly Asgard, Paramount Pictures has gifted MTV News with an exclusive new clip from the upcoming and highly anticipated "Thor."

For those who've been watching and re-watching the trailers, the featured scene will be slightly familiar. The clip opens with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Professor Andrews (Stellan Skarsgård) and Darcy (Kat Dennings) rushing to the aid of recently banished/crash-landed Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

"Get the first aid kit!" Foster yells, as she runs to the side of the fallen God of Thunder. "Do me a favor, and don't be dead," she says to him.

"Whoa, does he need CPR?" Darcy asks after seeing Thor's chiseled face. "Because I totally know CPR."

"Where did he come from?" Foster wonders aloud. Thor then grunts as he stands up too quickly, still shaken from his fall. He starts to call out for his lost weapon: "Hammer? Hammer?"

"Yeah, we can tell you're hammered," Darcy quips while watching him stumble around the clearing. "It's pretty obvious."

"Oh my God! Eric, look at this!" Foster exclaims suddenly, pointing to the unique, circular pattern formed in the dirt surrounding the area where they found Thor. "We have to move quickly before this all changes."

"Jane, we have to take him to the hospital," Andrews says, while Thor calls out to his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), in the background.

"He's fine, look at him," Foster says to Andrews, still crouching at the ground, trying to examine the pattern in the soil.

After receiving no response from his father, Thor starts to get more lucid, haughtily demanding answers about where he is: "What realm is this?" he demands.

"New Mexico," Darcy answers, her flashlight and taser gun pointed right at him.

"You dare threaten me?" Thor warns. "With so puny an..."

Darcy then shoots a taser into him, making him fall back to the ground, much to the astonishment and disbelief of Foster and Andrews.

"What?" Darcy asks innocently, as if her use of the taser was perfectly logical. "He was freaking me out!"

What do you think of the new clip? Let us know in the comments!

Check out everything we've got on "Thor."

Rihanna Opens Up About Chris Brown In Rolling Stone

'We don't have to talk ever again in my life,' 'S&M' singer says.
By Gil Kaufman

Rihanna on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine

While her ex, Chris Brown, has made it clear he doesn't want to talk about his assault on Rihanna, the "S&M" singer was more than willing to discuss her feelings about the 2009 incident in her first Rolling Stone cover interview.

In the issue, which hits stands Friday, Rihanna delves into the difficult times she faced in the wake of the Grammy-eve attack by Brown, saying, "I put my guard up so hard ... I didn't want people to see me cry. I didn't want people to feel bad for me. It was a very vulnerable time in my life, and I refused to let that be the image. I wanted them to see me as, 'I'm fine, I'm tough.' I put that up until it felt real."

Part of the defensive shield she put up around herself came down recently when Rihanna agreed to ease the restraining order against Brown, which prohibited him from being within 100 feet of her. "That's my decision," she said. "It doesn't mean we're gonna make up or even talk again. It just means I didn't want to object to the judge."

Frankly, she admitted, after a brief post-assault attempt at reconciliation, she hasn't heard from Brown in a long time and doesn't plan on dialing him up anytime soon.

"We don't have to talk ever again in my life," she said. "I just didn't want to make it more difficult for him professionally. What he did was a personal thing — it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be 100 feet away from me, he can't perform at awards shows — that definitely made it difficult for him ... But you can never please people. One minute, I'm being too hard, and the next minute, I'm a fool because I'm not being hard enough."

In addition to revealing her love of kinky bedroom play, which she paid homage to in her "S&M" video, Rihanna admitted she might be a bit of a masochist.

"It's not something I'm proud of, and it's not something I noticed until recently," she said. "I think it's common for people who witness abuse in their household. They can never smell how beautiful a rose is unless they get pricked by a thorn."

The cover story is accompanied by a RS online photo gallery chronicling some of Rihanna's boldest fashion choices, as well as quotes from pals such as Katy Perry, who said of her friend, "It's disgusting how gorgeous she is ... Anytime I introduce my friends to her, male or female, the ride back always consists of, 'What, does she drink the blood of virgins?' "

Though she's been tied to a number of men over the past few years, Rihanna revealed that she's not dating anyone at the moment and not even engaging in one of her favorite pastimes: sexting. In fact, she hasn't been with anyone since breaking up with Dodgers star Matt Kemp in December. "You think you're disappointed?" she said about the four-month gap in male companionship. "Try being in this body."

Jason Derulo Plans To 'Light' Up VMA Stage

Best New Artist nominee says idea for laser-lit gloves came in a dream.

VMA newbie and rising star Jason Derülo has a lot going for him these days. In addition to his two Video Music Award nominations — Best New Artist and Best Male Video — he's performing with VMA house artist deadmau5 on Sunday. And he'll be doing so with green laser-lit gloves, which were inspired, he says, by a dream.

"I have a lot of dreams about what I should be doing, what thing I should be doing onstage," Derülo told MTV News. "So when I have these visions, I'm like, 'Aw, that's really cool,' and I try to make them come to life."

Regarding those gloves, the "In My Head" singer said he made it all happen himself. "I went to a lighting company and I was like, 'Hey, make something like this.' " And they did.

Derülo described his VMA honors as a "wonderful beginning."

"Everything that's happened thus far has just [fallen] into place perfectly," he said. "I couldn't have written a better story if I tried. I can consider this just a brilliant start. It's really exciting, especially when you've been watching it your whole life," he added. "I watch the VMAs every year, my whole life."

As for Derülo's VMA partner, deadmau5, he wouldn't divulge any specifics about plans for Sunday. But he did admit to MTV News that he had no idea how big the house-artist job was when he signed up.

"I had no idea [who I'd be working with]," he said. "They were just like, 'Do you want to do this?' And I said, 'Yep,' and I didn't know what it was. And my management had sent me off to Spain ... and I was like, 'Well, whatever it is, it's probably going to be, like, a five-second cameo, so if they need me to do something, send my computer over,' " he said. "And so I get to Spain ... and they're like, 'Uh, yeah, you have to do eight remixes and three performances.' "

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News' VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday.

Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj Tapped For Japan Aid Compilation LP

U2 and Bon Jovi will also be featured on digital-only album from Universal Music.

Some of pop music's biggest artists, including Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, are lending their tunes for a good cause. On Monday (March 21), it was announced that Universal Music is rushing out a digital-only compilation album to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan.

While the lineup and track list have yet to be finalized, other chart-toppers expected to be featured on the release include U2 and Bon Jovi. Lady Gaga may also appear on the album. Proceeds from sales will go to the Japanese Red Cross.

"We are doing it only digitally because it is faster, and this will be a worldwide release. The plan is to have it available later this week," a spokesperson for Universal Music said.

In order to maximize proceeds, the record label plans to find more acts willing to waive royalties that would have come from having their tracks appear on the compilation.

Universal Music is not the only music-industry player reaching to support Japan disaster relief. Most recently, the Black Eyed Peas announced that the music video for their tune "Just Can't Get Enough" would be used to promote awareness and funds for victims of the tragic event. The clip, which was shot in Japan one week before the earthquake and tsunami hit, finds the BEP bandmates traveling throughout Toyko.

Earlier this month, Lady Gaga designed a special prayer bracelet with all proceeds going to relief efforts. In just two days, the pop singer and her legion of little monsters raised more than $250,000.

For more information on what you can do to help with earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan head to MTV Act, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

J. Cole Debuts 'In The Morning' Video Featuring Drake

Clip features footage of Cole and Drake's overseas concert.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Ah oui oui. J. Cole just made the Valentine's Day deadline he set for his "In the Morning" video when the North Carolina product posted the Friday Night Lights clip — featuring an unknown French beauty — on his blog just as the clock struck midnight.

The visual is set in Paris, where Cole toured with Drake on the overseas leg of the Thank Me Later star's Light Dreams and Nightmares outing.

The production begins in split screen, with J. Cole getting fresh in his hotel room as his love interest simultaneously gets herself together in her flat. The two arrive at the night's venue, but while Cole is backstage with his barber and friends, his female protagonist sits through the sound check alone, bobbing her head to the L&X Music beat.

"Baby, you summertime fine/ I'll let you get on top/ I'll be the underline, I'm," Cole raps on the simmering track. "Try'na get beside you/ Like the number nine, dime."

During Drake's verse, the Toronto lyricist is featured live in concert footage, a conscious decision, according to Cole.

"I wanted to give a feel for how that tour felt," Cole told MTV News last week about the concept of the video. "And just the magic of that tour. To give people a look into that."

Cole and his French friend are spotted hanging out backstage before being joined by Drake later. As Cole's second verse starts, he and Drake are shown onstage performing together.

The other duo — Cole and his leading lady — soon depart the arena, however, first for a late-night bite and then to his hotel.

The following scene flashes to Cole's room, which is lit by the morning sunshine and occupied only by his friend and a Dreamville (Cole's crew) T-shirt.

"Cook a n---- breakfast after sex is like a reward," Cole raps on the track. "Then I go my own way/ You think about me all day/ That's just a warning, can I hit it in the morning."

Nicki Minaj Ready For Pink Friday Follow-Up -- After Mystery Collabo

'I handed in a verse to a very special lady that I think is gonna rock people's world,' she teases MTV News.
By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Nicki Minaj is still pushing her debut album, Pink Friday, but the Lil Wayne protégé is ready to get back in the studio.

She took time out from recording recently to prep for the I Am Still Music Tour.

"I slowed down because I been rehearsing," Nicki told MTV News. "I couldn't do a lot of stuff. There's things that are pending that I have to turn in."

But prior to the tour kickoff in Providence, Rhode Island, the Queens MC put pen to pad for several contributions to future projects from her Young Money/ Cash Money Records family and another she was particularly tight-lipped about.

"I had to hand in a Carter IV verse. I handed in a verse to Birdman, and I handed in a verse to a very special lady that I think is gonna rock people's world," she told MTV News.

"I love keeping secrets," Nicki added, smiling. "That [last] one is gonna rock some boats."

Soon, she said, she'll begin the first stages on her follow-up to Pink Friday. Her video with Rihanna for "Fly" and the "Super Bass" clip are scheduled to arrive next. However, she already has a release date in mind for her sophomore set — though she's reluctant to broadcast the info.

"I can give you an idea," she said, coyly. "But I don't want to. I'd rather not right now. Because then everybody is gonna jump on the bandwagon and say they're putting out their album the same day."

Are you looking forward to new music from Nicki? Let us know in the comments!

Gucci And Jay-Z Grammy Brunch Draws Rihanna, The-Dream, Ne-Yo

Hov's Roc Nation partners with luxury brand for exclusive pre-show event.

LOS ANGELES — With the 53rd annual Grammy Awards less than a day away, glossy industry parties have been underway as some of music's biggest names take over Los Angeles. And there's no better way to kick off the weekend than to sip on some mimosas and enjoy an early brunch with entertainment's biggest entrepreneur alongside fashion's leading luxury brand.

Held at the Soho House in West Hollywood, Roc Nation founder Jay-Z along with Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini, joined forces Saturday afternoon (February 12) to host this year's pre-Grammy brunch, celebrating the art of music and the special-edition collection of Gucci Grammy watches and jewelry items.

"I was looking for a partner, a very strong one, the day before the Grammys," Giannini explained of her decision to pair up with this year's six-time Grammy nominee. "I think Jay-Z is the boss of this industry. He is a very iconic person, and I think he is the best. So as a designer, I always say I find an incredible inspiration coming from musicians who are in the music industry. Fashion and music, they have always been together because I think we are looking to musicians and musicians are looking to fashion."

Check out photos of Jay-Z, Will Smith, Rihanna and more at the Roc Nation Grammy brunch.

Last November, Gucci Timepieces and Jewelry announced a three-year partnership with The Recording Academy inspired by the Grammy Awards. This new partnership is part of a celebration of Gucci's 90 -year history of the brand's commitment to the arts as well as to their most loyal clients — some of whom include artists and producers in the Roc Nation family.

"You can't put a real value on [fashion]," said hitmaker The-Dream, who is already a two-time Grammy winner. "It's so infused in our culture...you know, big ups to Gucci for supporting Roc Nation and Roc-A-Fella and the whole movement, because we used to have to fight for these things. We used to [not be able to] get sponsors, and now it's like almost automatic, you know, [that] it's gonna appear. So I'm pretty impressed."

As were all the other A-list celebrities invited, which included Grammy nominees, performers and presenters such as Rihanna, Kings of Leon and Sean Garrett, as well as actors Ryan Phillippe, Adrien Brody and Ellen Pompeo. As the stars casually arrived to the three-hour event, they were treated to food, beverages and tunes provided by DJs Mark Ronson, Samantha Ronson, Solange and D-Nice. While some dodged the red carpet before entering the venue, others were happy to take a moment to have their pictures taken in their finest attire and speak out about the legacy of fashion and art.

"As a celebrity, as an artist, fashion plays a very, very important part in your imaging and who you are as a person," Ne-Yo explained. "Everyone wants to dress like the hottest celebrity, so for them to line up with Gucci, which is one of those brands which is very versatile, they can be street and they can be dinner-party. They have all of that in their brand. So I think it's very important."

Don't miss "Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys," a red-carpet live stream kicking off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com. And stick with us all Grammy night for coverage of the red carpet, the show, the afterparties and beyond!

Rihanna Talks Curves In Vogue

'I actually like my body, even if it's not perfect according to the book,' star says.
By Jocelyn Vena

Rihanna on the April cover of Vogue
Photo: Vogue

Donning a sparkly nude gown and cascading red curls, Rihanna graces the cover of the April "shape issue" of Vogue. In the magazine, she opens up about her changing style, which has evolved from generic pop star to flame-haired pop icon. She admits that even before her chart-topping days, she always wanted to stand out from the crowd.

"When I was fourteen and first started going out, I always wanted to be the opposite of everyone else," she explained in the interview. "So I would go to the club in a polo T-shirt and pants and sneakers and a hat on backward, just so I would not be dressed like other girls. And I got desperate for things that weren't available in Barbados. I would cut things out of magazines. I was obsessed with creating a visual with clothing, and the way things are combined."

Rihanna added that even now, like then, it's always about taking it to the next level when it comes to the visual component of her persona. "It's become more about taking a risk. When I am putting looks together, I dare myself to make something work. I always look for the most interesting silhouette or something that's a little off, but I have to figure it out. I have to make it me," she said. "I think that's the thrill in fashion."

The first big step came when she made the transition with her hair, going from soft, standard pop styling to the now-infamous choppy short 'do she rocked in the "Umbrella" video. She said, "When I cut my hair, the whole sound changed, my style changed."

Given that she appears in the "shape issue," Rihanna also talked about her famous va-va-voom figure, admitting that she only recently began to appreciate it. "Over the holidays, and even during filming ['Battleship'], I realized that I actually like my body, even if it's not perfect according to the book. I just feel sexy. For the first time, I don't want to get rid of the curves. I just want to tone it up," she said. "My body is comfortable, and it's not unhealthy, so I'm going to rock with it."

Kanye West's 'Power' Video Is Unlike 'Anything,' Jason Derulo Says

'Those videos are very interesting, actually,' VMA-nominated singer says of West's and Eminem's latest clips.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Audrey Kim

Jason Derulo
Photo: MTV News

Last week, Kanye West and Eminem released two equally powerful, albeit very different, music videos, for their singles "Power" and "Love the Way You Lie," respectively. And while Eminem relied on some heavyweight cameos from Megan Fox, Rihanna and Dominic Monaghan to tell his story, West relied on artistic visuals, created with the help of director Marco Brambilla, for what he described as a "painting."

"Those videos are very interesting, actually," "In My Head" singer and VMA nominee Jason Derulo told MTV News on Sunday at the Teen Choice Awards. "I watched the Kanye video and I thought that was very different to anything I've ever seen before. It's not actually a video. It's almost like a moving painting. I thought that was really cool."

Derulo's feelings on West's "Power" mirrored that of something the rapper himself tweeted last week when the video premiered: "IT'S NOT A VIDEO . . . IT'S A PAINTING!!!

So, with West's video acting as a visual mind trip, what did Derulo think of Em's darker, more cinematic video starring two of Hollywood's most recognizable faces and one of pop's most unique voices? Well, the ladies stood out the most for him. "I thought Rihanna looked great in the 'Lie' video," he praised. "Megan Fox looked awesome too. Eminem always does it."

Which video left more of a mark on you, Kanye's or Eminem's? Tell us in the comments!

MIAMI — On its third and final day, the Ultra Music Festival delivered a blazing one-two punch of trance and house star power for the 50,000 fans in attendance on closing day of the annual get-together held at Bicentennial Park.

The Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am joined an impressive roster of house-music performers that included Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Erick Morillo, Robbie Rivera, Wolfgang Gartner and David Guetta.

Dutch trance music star Armin van Buuren celebrated the 500th broadcast of his A State of Trance show, this time dubbed ASOT 500, in honor of the milestone. The show filled in the slot normally taken by Carl Cox's stage on Friday and Saturday, and van Buuren brought some well-known trance-DJ friends like Cosmic Gate, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, ATB and the night's closer, Sander Van Doorn, all of whom helped to pack a few thousand fans into the tent, chest to back, to capacity.

Just before 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, AVB joined friend/countryman/collaborator Corsten onstage. But a hug and a few jokes later and it was van Buuren's turn to steer the ASOT 500 ship, and he throttled into his set. Van Buuren also held down hosting duties throughout the night, revealing in an on air-interview with ATB the pair have collaborated on a track titled "Vice Versa."

On the main stage, Gartner didn't just hit fans with hits like "Spacejunk," "Illmerica," and his deadmau5 collabo, "Animal Rights." He also tested out a few new songs, including still-unreleased gems "818," and his next single, the electro-house banger "Forever," which features vocals by will.i.am.

Later, house legend Morillo blessed the crowd with three top-notch vocalists: Rachel Starr, former Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta, and powerhouse singer Shawnee Taylor took turns joining him onstage. Fans sang along with Taylor as she belted the hits "Stronger" and "Live Your Life" among others. Finally, Diddy joined his buddy Morillo onstage, dropping his bars from Dirty South's remix of Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home," a Miami Music Week DJ-set staple.

David Guetta was feeling particularly electro-clubby. He hammered fans with hair-raising renditions of his material, kicking things off with "Gettin' Over You," and then a baritone horn-driven thumper of a tune that some fans may have heard days before at Mansion.

Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am joined Guetta onstage at various points of the night, adding vocals to Guetta's remixes of BEP hits "The Time," and "I Gotta Feeling." But probably the more unexpected cameo was Flo Rida, who showed up with an entourage of Super Soaker-wielding friends and charged onto the stage for the Guetta/Flo hit "Club Can't Handle Me."

Perhaps the most moving moment of the day came when rising star Afrojack joined Guetta and addressed the audience. "Miami, last year, I played here for the first time, through David," Afrojack said. "I had a great time. David is all about the love. David, I love you. Miami, I love you. This guy is the f---ing sh--! So Miami, make some noise for David Guetta!"

Needless to say, the crowd seemed to agree with the 22-year-old Dutch phenom. They returned his request with a roar.

'Love & Hip Hop' Stars Talk Fabolous, Jim Jones, 50 Cent

Emily, Chrissy and Olivia spill all to MTV News before the Monday night premiere of their brand-new reality series.

Hip-hop is a lot like the title of Jim Jones' "Blow Your Smoke." For all of us ardent followers of this rhyming circuit of storytellers who weave aspirational fantasies about Bentleys and shopping sprees, it doesn't matter much that the German luxury car is a loaner or that the fresh-from-the runway Lanvin frock is going back to a publicist. To paraphrase the Diplomat boss, sometimes it's just about blowing smoke.

If anyone knows that rap is as much caked-in grime as it is glossy surfaces, it's the cast of VH1's brand-new docu-series "Love & Hip Hop," officially premiering Monday night (March 14) at 10:30 p.m. ET. On Friday, MTV News caught up with three of the principal castmembers — Chrissy Lampkin (longtime lady of Jim Jones), Emily Bustamante (mother of Fabolous' son) and Olivia Longott (ex-G-Unit songstress) — and they spilled details about their lives and the show.

"For me, the struggle is mostly the image struggle, keeping up with the image," Emily said, when asked what the biggest challenge was about being in a relationship with a famous rapper.

In the weeks since the "Love & Hip-Hop" teaser trailer hit the Net, viewers have been chirping about the women behind the MCs. But the biggest surprise for many fans is that these rappers have been in serious relationships at all. Seeing iconic or veteran rappers on shows like MTV's "Run's House" or E!'s "Snoop Dogg's Father Hood" is one thing, but the idea of a domesticated Fab, whose legion of female fans get worked up over his chipped tooth, is another.

"Me as a wardrobe stylist, I dress these guys, when they put on their bling and their clothes and their shades, they turn into a character," Emily explained. "So that's the biggest struggle for me, the image thing, having to deal with that."

Emily, who describes herself as Fab's "secret" in the premiere episode, recalled being approached by the execs behind "L&HH." She was sold on the chance to brand herself as wardrobe stylist "Emily B." So was Loso supportive?

Emily paused for a moment. "Was he supportive? ... He said, 'Eh, I don't know if that's a good idea.' ... He said, 'I'm not gonna tell you not to do it, but I don't know if it's a good idea.' So maybe he was right," she laughed, adding quickly, "For him!"

Meeting Chrissy helped cement the decision, and though Fab and Jim traded barbs on Twitter last April, their female counterparts proved fast friends.

"In the beginning, it was a pilot about me and Jimmy ['Jim and the Family Jones'], and he wasn't really comfortable with that," Chrissy explained. VH1 producers volunteered to bring in "some more females, make it more interesting," and eventually Emily, Olivia and aspiring rapper Somaya Reece were added to the cast; Emily's close friend Mashonda Tifrere (ex-wife of Swizz Beatz) also appears.

"If I don't have to work with Jimmy every day, I'm with it!" the ever-bouncy Chrissy, who actually proposes to Jim on the show, laughed. "He didn't want to be bothered with the cameras every day."

According to Olivia, best known for her turn on 50 Cent's G-Unit roster, including a feature spot on her ex-boss' hit "Candy Shop," the series is also about re-charging her music career.

"A lot of people don't really know the real Olivia. I felt like I was kind of sheltered being in the Unit, so this was a way for everybody to see my personality and see how I really am, especially when you see me with these two women," she said gesturing at Emily and Chrissy. " 'Cause we have a lot of scenes together. So you get to see the relationships and how we bond. ... It's a big deal for me because a lot of people also don't know that really I can sing, sing."

With fame in the balance — and all the negative press that can come with it already rearing its head — the ladies said they're just beginning to adjust to the media glare.

"I'm not really in the belly of the beast when it comes to the industry. I've been playing a supporting role to somebody who's going through all types of pitfalls, losses and gains," Chrissy said. "So I can see what it does, but I don't know what it truly feels like — until now, but this is very new, it's premature."

Nicki Minaj Ready For Pink Friday Follow-Up -- After Mystery Collabo

'I handed in a verse to a very special lady that I think is gonna rock people's world,' she teases MTV News.

Terrence Howard Says He Picked Up Acting Tips From 50 Cent

'I actually learned more from watching him,' the 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' ' actor tells Mixtape Daily.

Celebrity Favorites: Terrence Howard

50 Cent has invaded Hollywood with a string of roles alongside Tinseltown royalty like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro ("Righteous Kill") and leading-man-in-the-making Chace Crawford ("Twelve").

We all know that the G-Unit General can make a hit, but after he and producer Randall Emmett inked a reported $200 million deal to launch Cheetah Films, don't be surprised if the rapper's future lies in making fans sit down to watch him on the big screen instead of hitting the dance floor.

He hasn't left New York for the West Coast just yet, but Terrence Howard said 50 is a more than capable actor. The two worked together on Fif's first film, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'." And according to the veteran actor ("Hustle & Flow," "Crash," "Ray"), he actually learned more from 50 than the other way around.

"One of the things that I learned, the hardest thing to do is be still," Howard explained. "When you don't know what to do, be still. He mastered that. And therefore, when he jumped forward and has something to say, he spoke the truth with it. That's a genius. That's what makes great film work. He was there from the beginning. I actually learned more from watching him, 'cause he taught me to be still."

In addition to his film ventures and wrapping his next album, 50 Cent recently joined Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the Sundance Film Festival for the launch of the boxer's Mayweather Productions.

T.I. Reprimanded After Overly Amorous Prison Visit With Wife Tiny

Rapper sent to restricted 'special housing unit' for violating prison rules, according to TMZ.
By Gil Kaufman

Incarcerated rapper T.I., in the midst of an 11-month prison bid for probation violations, was reportedly reprimanded this weekend after getting a bit too amorous during a visit with wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle.

According to TMZ, T.I. (born Clifford Harris) was caught by guards getting "frisky" with his wife during visiting hours at the Forrest City Federal Correctional Complex in Arkansas over the weekend. Citing wife Tiny as its source, the gossip site said the couple was in a room during an approved conjugal visit during regular visiting hours when things got a little too hands on.

The extracurricular activity is against prison guidelines, which allow inmates to hold hands, kiss and embrace at the beginning and end of their visit, but require the prisoner's hands to "remain in plain view of Visiting Room staff at all times."

Tiny reportedly told the site that her hubby was immediately reprimanded and sent to a "special housing unit," which allows him less freedom and has tighter security. She said she hasn't spoken to Tip since the incident, but hopes that she can visit him again soon.

A spokesperson for the rapper had no comment on the incident at press time.

T.I. turned himself over to authorities on November 1 to begin his second stint in the Arkansas prison in less than a year.

The low-security prison is the same facility where the King of the South served nine months last year after he secured a plea deal with Georgia prosecutors stemming from a 2007 gun case. The experimental deal required Tip to complete 1,500 hours of community service and endure home confinement in exchange for a lesser sentence. He was also required to complete a probation period afterward. The rapper was released in March after serving out the remainder of his time at a halfway house.

He was sent back to the facility after an October 2010 arrest in Los Angeles for drug possession after police searched the couple's vehicle following a traffic violation.

Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash Light Up Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

Foursome is joined by special guests and tons of lights for smash-hit medley.

The Black Eyed Peas promised a party at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 6), and the pop supernovas definitely delivered, with a performance teeming with lights, dancers and surprise appearances from celebrity pals.

Following a Chatter.com commercial that showed animated versions of the Peas showing off their social-media skills, the group kicked things off with their 2009 smash "I Gotta Feeling," descending from the ceiling on illuminated platforms onto a stage surrounded by a cluster of dancers clad in white bodysuits. The foursome led the team of fist-pumping troops in "Tron"-like getups, with Taboo sporting an outfit covered in flashing lights, will.i.am rocking a shiny hairpiece, Apl.de.ap wearing huge bright studs and Fergie vamping it up in bling-laden shoulder pads.

When the speaker-busting bass of "Boom Boom Pow" dropped, the dancers dispersed across the field to create arrow-shaped formations as the glow-in-the-dark lights on their suits illuminated the stadium. Then rumored surprise guest Slash of Guns N' Roses rose from below the stage for a "Sweet Child O' Mine" duet with Fergie. The GNR great rocked a finger-searing solo in a studded version of his signature black top hat as more angular platforms and dancers moved across the gridiron. The platforms were bearing scores of marching-band musicians who blasted their horns and pounded away on their drums as the Peas went into "Pump It" and blue lights splashed across the production.

Quick streams of fog heralded the arrival of the Peas' second surprise guest, Usher, who swooped in on a long chain to bust out his will.i.am-assisted joint "OMG." Rocking a sparkly collar on an otherwise all-white ensemble, the R&B hitmaker cranked out several counts of energetic choreography, enlivening moves from his "OMG" video and at one point jumping over Will and landing in a split.

A spray of pyro ushered in the collective's breakout 2003 hit "Where Is the Love?" as the oddly shaped platforms spelled out the word "Love" in bright-red letters. The team of dancers, which appeared to have multiplied to over 100, formed hearts across the field as will updated the lyrics of the smash with lines like, "Obama, let's get these educated."

Then the group jumped ahead to their most recent single, 2010's "The Time (Dirty Bit)," as several back up hoofers rocking cubed helmets joined the Peas onstage and dancers lined up along the gridiron to simultaneously bust out the Running Man, a move which drew cheers from the crowd.

The platinum-selling Peas wrapped up the performance with a reprise of "I Gotta Feeling," as the quartet triumphantly signed off amid of blitz of fog, firepower and flashing lights.

Ripping the halftime show was clearly a touching moment for will, who tweeted beforehand, "Me and apl started the peas when we were 16 yesterday we were dreamin now were livin it. Wow. I'm not crying out of sadness or nervousness its joy and pride and memories and the journey."

And once the crew left the stage, the frontman was not only proud, but pumped. "That was so freakin sick," he wrote. "Wow...!!!"

'Love & Hip Hop' Stars Talk Fabolous, Jim Jones, 50 Cent

Emily, Chrissy and Olivia spill all to MTV News before the Monday night premiere of their brand-new reality series.

Emily, who describes herself as Fab's "secret" in the premiere episode, recalled being approached by the execs behind "L&HH." She was sold on the chance to brand herself as wardrobe stylist "Emily B." So was Loso supportive?

Meeting Chrissy helped cement the decision, and though Fab and Jim traded barbs on Twitter last April, their female counterparts proved fast friends.
